Patrick Mallon was born in the Parish of Ballymore, county Westmeath, and attested for the 89th Foot at Athlone on 6 May 1825, aged 21 years. He volunteered for the 13th Light Infantry on 22 September 1830, and ‘served with the Army of the Indus during the Campaigns in Affghanistan in the years 1838, 39, 40, 41, and 42. Was present at the Storming of Ghuznee in July 1839 and the Forts of Tootim, Dumah and Gulgah in the Kohistan in 1840; was present at the several engagements in forcing the passes from Cabool to Jellalabad in 1841 and in defence of the latter Fortress in 1841 and 1842; present in the General Action at Jellalabad 7th April 1842, Jugdullock 8th September, Tezeen 13th September and recapture of Cabool 15th September 1842. Wounded at Ghuznee, bruised in the neck, 23rd July 1839. Is in possession of three medals for the storming of Ghuznee, General action at Jellalabad and recapture of Cabool.’ Patrick Mallon was dischared at Chatham on 28 August 1846. Sold with copy discharge papers.
