BELGIUM, Au Roi-Soldat, a uniface bronze plaque by G. Petit, helmeted bust of Albert I almost facing, shield at left, 80 x 69mm. Very fine, rare £80-£120
Known as the Roi-Soldat, or Soldier-King, Albert spent much of World War I trying to negotiate a peace between Germany and the Allies. When this route eventually failed,, as commander of the Army Group Flanders, consisting of Belgian, British and French divisions, Albert led the final offensive of the war that liberated occupied Belgium.
