Objects of Vertu and Selected Silver feature in our quarterly Jewellery and Watch auctions. Objects of Vertu are decorative works of art, luxury items and practical pieces. They generally comprise small objects, made of gold or precious metals, and perhaps incorporating hardstones, gemstones, micromosaics, enamel, porcelain and miniatures. Examples include bonbonnières, boxes, cases etc in gold or precious metals, cane/parasol handles, desk seals, enamelled wares, etuis, minaudières and vanity cases, musical boxes, perfume/scent bottles, pomanders, snuff boxes and spyglasses.
Selected silver includes items such as aide memoires, bookmarks, caddy spoons, card cases, cigarette/cigar cases, cigar cutters, compacts, enamelled boxes, masonic items, menu holders, nutmeg graters, pens/pencils, pin cushions, purses, rattles, seals, snuff boxes, sewing related items, sovereign cases, toothpick cases, toys/miniatures, vinaigrettes and whistles. It also includes early spoons, apostle and mote spoons, collectors’ spoons, marrow scoops, Irish, Scottish and Provincial silver, wine-related silver wares and 20th century designer silver wares.
