Dix Noonan Webb, Britain’s biggest auctioneer of orders, medals and decorations, are pleased to announce the dates for the Britannia Medal Fairs in 2019 and 2020. The next fair will be on Sunday, November 17th, 2019, followed by Sunday, April 26th, 2020 and Sunday, November 15th, 2020.
The fair continues to be held at the Victory Services Club in central London (63/79 Seymour Street, London, W2 2HF) where it has attracted dealers and collectors for more than 30 years.
Oliver Pepys, the Medal Auctioneer at Dix Noonan Webb, commented: “Following the success of last November’s Britannia Medal Fair, the first to be hosted by DNW, we have been delighted with the positive feedback that we have received, and the renewed enthusiasm that has been generated. It is clear that as well as being a place for dealers to sell and collectors to buy, the DNW Britannia Medal Fair also performs a vital social function: contacts and friendships are made and strengthened, information is exchanged, and knowledge is enhanced.”
Following the recent fair on Sunday, March 17th, 2019, Fair Organiser Mark Carter noted: “The feedback from Sunday’s fair has been very welcoming and it was good to see visitors from countries such as Bulgaria, Israel and the USA. New stallholder Anne Samson of The GWAA had a very interactive day promoting WW1 in Africa and said that it was a good day, and it was lovely to be able to see old friends and meet new people, while Mark Smith, of Baldwins, who will be familiar to many as an expert on BBC’s Antiques Roadshow, commented that it was their best ever Britannia for selling medals.”
Andrew Jukes from The Medal Centre in Hexham, Northumberland commented: “Despite it being a very long journey for us we find Britannia a very worthwhile event as we meet customers there that we don't see at any of the other fairs we attend. We will of course continue to support it on every occasion.”
Steve and Maggie Law of Great War Medals noted: “We have been attending the Britannia Fair for more than 30 years. Since DNW took over the running of the fair and made entry free, we have seen an increase in attendance and business has been brisk, like it was 15 years ago. We enjoy meeting collectors, who have travelled for the event from Northern Ireland and Scotland and we like to reward those who have come along by bringing new stock that we haven’t featured on our website.”
Christopher Mellor-Hill, Head of Client Liaison at Dix Noonan Webb, also commented: “We have been extremely pleased with the additional feedback since the Fair; DCM medals said they had their best day ever, as did Chris Dixon who also said he had a good day too and Scotmint who came from Scotland also had a very good day & weekend visit.”
He also noted that: “We also had 5 collectors we know of who actually came over from the States in order to attend including a father from California and his son from Rhode Island to have a father / son weekend in London based around the Britannia Medal Fair. Other collectors we know of came from as far as Yorkshire, Wales and Somerset for the day too.”
Entry is free to the Fair, which comprises approx. 50 stands, and there is no charge for trade stands. Priority is given to current and recent stallholders but newcomers are encouraged. For more information, please visit https://www.dnw.co.uk/news-and-events/britannia/ or contact events@dnw.co.uk
