STUNNING 1970S SWISS NECKLACE AND ROLEX DAYTONA NO 16520 ‘ZENITH’ WRISTWATCH LEAD DIX NOONAN WEBB’S SUMMER JEWELLERY, WATCHES AND OBJECTS OF VERTU AUCTION

A 1970s three-colour precious metal and cultured pearl necklace by Swiss jeweller Pierre Baltensperger is one of the stand-out pieces in Dix Noonan Webb’s auction of Jewellery, Watches and Objects of Vertu on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at 1pm. Designed with juxtaposed linked cylindrical hoops of varying sizes, the larger hoops inset with a cultured pearl of white, pink, grey, silver or black hue, the necklace is estimated at £8,000-10,000. It is in excellent condition.

A delightful 17th century enamelled portrait miniature, later mounted into a 19th century gold locket pendant mount, depicting Lady Frances Haversham, and engraved with her name to the reverse, is expected to realise £1,200-1,500.  

Highlights in the Watches section include a Rolex stainless steel automatic chronograph wristwatch, Ref 16520m Zenith Daytona, dating from circa 2000, estimated at £12,000-15,000 and leads a selection of fine watches including an Omega Limited Edition stainless steel dual time wristwatch, made for the British Elite Special Boat Service (SBS) which is expected to fetch £2,000-3,000, and a range of wristwatches by Breguet, Vacheron & Constantin, Jaeger LeCoultre, Cartier, etc.

The Objects of Vertu section includes a selection of fine gold and silver boxes, including a Louis XV gold, enamel and dendritic agate panel snuff box, estimated at £10,000-12,000; a 19th century German three colour gold and blue enamelled oval snuff box by Hanau, which carries an estimate of £7,000-8,000; while a French 19th century gold mounted rock crystal perfume bottle is expected to fetch £1,200-1,600, further enamelled cigarette cases, etuis etc will also be offered.

Dix Noonan Webb – a brief history
In 1991, its first year of trading, the company held three medal auctions and sold 1,200 lots for a total hammer price of £553,000, however 30 years later, DNW is established as the premier medal auctioneer worldwide. Two years later, in 1993, it opened a coin department which also auctions commemorative medals and tokens. In 2015 DNW added jewellery to its sales calendar as well as setting up a stand alone banknotes department and expanding into premises next door. In 2020 DNW achieved a total hammer price of £14,256,060 and the total number of lots sold across all departments was 24,400.
